Some of the stories we think of as 'fairy tales' don't actually have fairies in them. Over two talks, Brian will question the use of this term. Looking at Fairy Tales from Anderson and Grimm, he will discuss the use of popular lore in the works of these writers and its illustration. The talks will be illustrated by material from Brian's collections of books by the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen, whose work he has also translated.
