Coagulation, Flocculation and Settlement

In coagulation, a liquid coagulant is added to the water to attract suspended particles. The water is then stirred to allow particles to come together and form larger particles (flocculation), these can then be removed by sedimentation, settlement or filtration.

How to use:

  • A coagulant such as aluminium sulphate should be added to drinking-water as per package instructions
  • Stir the water to allow particles to bond together, this is flocculation
  • The particles should then be removed by sedimentation, settlement or filtration
