The Southern Cross Regional Research Institute (SCRRI) was established in 1998 to undertake research to support the sustainable development potential of regional and community areas. The Institute is a joint venture between the Southern Cross University and the Northern Rivers Regional Economic Development Organisation in North Eastern Australia.

The Institute's Business Plan focuses on developing a better understanding of the dynamics of economies at the regional and community level in the context of the global environment and aims to add value to the sustainable prospects of these areas through research, information provision and representation. It provides strategic policy input and develops and implements initiatives for government, institutions and business as they relate to the location aspects of their operations. Key areas of interest are the facilitation in regions and communities of:

SCRRI will undertake regional case studies in the North Coast of New South Wales and Canberra.
