The Centre for Urban and Regional Development Studies (CURDS) is a multidisciplinary research
centre with an international reputation for work on the economic and social development of cities
and regions. The centre has more than twenty active research staff as well as a number of visiting
research fellows and seven administrative, technical and secretarial staff. The Centre carries out
a wide ranging programme of academically rigourous and policy relevant research for a variety of
academic, government and private clients including the the Economic and Social Research Council,
the Commission of the European Communities, the OECD, various UK government departments, local
authorities, development agencies and private sector firms.
CURDS will lead the international thematic study into student migratory flows and local
labour market dynamics and undertake regional case studies in Northern England and London.
