Dr Catherine Dotchin

Catherine is a Consultant Geriatrician at Northumbria Trust. She's been involved in PD research in Tanzania since 2005 when she completed a community-based prevalence survey.

Since then Catherine has been interested in ageing in Tanzania and has helped run a dementia prevalence study and overseen a PhD on cognitive screening tools for use in older adults in SsA who may not be able to read/write and may not have been to school.

Catherine currently helps to run an intervention study for cognitive stimulation therapy for mild to moderate dementia in Tanzania and Nigeria. The team have enabled training for allied health professionals, non-specialist doctors and family caregivers around dementia and PD.

Catherine's role within the TraPCAf program is to help with the prevalence studies, in particular in Tanzania and to supervise Rich’s PhD in Kilifi. As the training lead for TraPCAf, Catherine has successfully bid for funding to develop qualitative research skills and for work in Addis Ababa to explore a link between elderly care and cognition there.

She also supervises the Newcastle MRes students involved in TraPCAf with Richard.
