Ali Shalash graduated from Ain Shams University Faculty of Medicine in 1998. He subsequently completed his PhD in 2007 and his Professorship of Neurology in 2017.
Ali founded the first movement disorders clinic at his institute and is an active member of the Egyptian Society of Neurology. He has published several papers in high-impact journals and has published two books on general neurology and examination. In addition, he has also joined research projects in the field. He graduated from the MDS LEAP program in 2018.
Ali organized the first Movement Disorders Society (MDS) School for young neurologists in Africa (Cairo, Egypt) and several international educational activities in the movement disorders field. He founded and directed the African Movement Disorders Grand Round multicenter webinar series in 2020.
Currently, Ali is the head of the Ain Shams Movement Disorders group and the current Chair-elect of the MDS-Africa section.
In 2022, Ali was nominated as a Consultant for the World Health Organization (WHO) to assist in the creation of Parkinson's disease: A Public Health Approach - a technical brief that outlines the global burden, treatment gaps and crucial areas for actions for Parkinson disease (PD) and provides considerations for policies, implementation and research with a focus on low and middle-income countries (LMIC).
