UHURU gets Shark Awards nomination

We are delighted to announce that UHURU, a powerful short documentary produced as part of the TraPCAf project, was shortlisted for Best Documentary Short (International) at the 2024 Kinsale Shark Awards! This recognition is a testament to the dedication and talent of everyone involved in bringing this important story to life.

UHURU is an intimate and emotive portrayal of life with Parkinson’s disease in Tanzania. In a country with limited healthcare resources, the film follows the complex journeys of three individuals living with the condition. From the devastating impact of their symptoms to the struggles of obtaining an accurate diagnosis, UHURU reveals the harsh realities of navigating Parkinson’s in a system with little support. Ultimately, the documentary highlights the life-changing difference that access to essential medication can make, offering a message of hope amid adversity.

As a TraPCAf project output, UHURU aligns with the initiative’s commitment to shedding light on critical healthcare challenges and social issues through powerful storytelling.

The Kinsale Shark Awards are one of the most prestigious international festivals celebrating creativity in advertising, film, and design. Held annually in Kinsale, Ireland, the awards honour outstanding work across various categories, including independent filmmaking.

Being shortlisted in the Best Documentary Short (International) category places UHURU among some of the most impactful documentary films of the year. This recognition highlights the film’s emotional depth, compelling storytelling, and ability to amplify underrepresented voices in global healthcare.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the entire UHURU team for this well-deserved honour. Stay tuned for updates as we celebrate this incredible achievement!
