Meet Jack Lumsdon | ECR Series

Meet Jack, one of our Early Career Researchers, who is exploring the challenges associated with physical mobility in people with Parkinson’s disease across Ghana and Kenya.

What is your current role/title?
PhD Student at Newcastle University (UK)

What is your current research focus?
My research explores challenges associated with physical mobility (the ability to move around freely) in people with Parkinson’s in Ghana and Kenya. Using interview and workshop data collected across urban and rural sites, I examine factors influencing physical mobility and how these impact daily living.

How does your work connect to the TraPCAf project?
I use qualitative data collected in Ghana and Kenya as part of the TraPCAf project to better understand lived experiences and inform future interventions.

What interested you in working in this field, and what do you enjoy most about your research?
In the past, I worked as an Activities Coordinator for people with limited physical mobility. This experience sparked my interest in understanding the impact of declining mobility and how we can better support individuals facing these challenges.

What are your career aspirations or next steps?
Following my PhD, I plan to pursue postdoctoral positions to expand my research further and develop practical implementation strategies.

What do you enjoy outside of work?
I have two adorable kittens, and I enjoy crocheting in my free time.
