We think that having a disability, and what disabled young people think about having a disability, is influenced by the people around them, and how other people respond to them being disabled. This may mean there are lots of different influences, such as doctors and other medical professionals; parents, friends and families; teachers and support workers at school; or even people that we do not know, but who look at disabled people as different. We wanted to find out about how all the different ways that people see disability shapes what disabled young people themselves think about their bodies. Of course, the body is not just about disability, but other things too, and we wanted to look at how what disabled young people think about the body is shaped by other things, such as gender, and growing up, and what those things mean.
