Project Updates

Where we are now
There are two core elements to the research project; a systematic review, which is currently being conducted and qualitative stakeholder research, which commenced in 2021.

Systematic Review

Two complementary systematic reviews are currently being conducted. The aim of these reviews is to identify and review effectiveness, resource implications, and acceptability and implementation of oral health and related health behaviour interventions in adult SMD populations.

Our published systematic review protocol can be found here

Qualitative Stakeholder Research

The qualitative stakeholder research is currently being conducted with individuals in Newcastle and Gateshead with lived experience of homelessness, substance misuse, and offending. We are also looking to speak to individuals who provide support to individuals experiencing severe and multiple disadvantage (homelessness, substance misuse, and offending), including frontline workers, policy makers, and commissioners across Newcastle/Gateshead, London, and Plymouth.

Our published qualitative stakeholder research protocol can be found here
