Invited lecture at the Byzantine studies seminar, University of Oxford

On 16 October 2019, I gave a lecture at the Byzantine studies seminar organized by the Oxford Centre for Byzantine Studies of the University of Oxford, at the invitation of Prof. Mark Lauxtermann and Dr Marek Jankowiak.

My paper, titled “Light and Fire: Hesychast Hagiography and Editorial Practice in Late Byzantium” explored the relationship between space and hesychast experience as reflected in late Byzantine lives of saints and analysed and contextualized Philotheos Kokkinos’ interesting and hitherto unexplored editorial practices and textual criticism in a case of supposed Origenist interpolations in a tenth-eleventh-century copy of Gregory of Nyssa's On the Dead.

The lecture took place at the Stelios Ioannou Centre for Classical and Byzantine Studies and enjoyed excellent feedback from the audience, which included Professors Elizabeth and Michael Jeffreys, Professor Mark Lauxtermann, Dr Ida Toth and Dr Mary Cunningham.
