Researchers talk to local and national policymakers

Researchers from Rural Enterprise UK were invited to a high level meeting in February with Local Enterprise Partnerships and representatives from Defra to present initial findings from their work on the potential of rural businesses and the barriers they encounter. Professer Jeremy Phillipson said: "We know that many rural entrepreneurs want to grow their businesses. They are more likely than urban firms to be more profitable and to be exporters of goods and services. But they are also held back by issues such as regulation and their ability to recruit skilled staff. So this was a great opportunity to talk to people at national and regional level to highlight some of the untapped potential in our rural areas." The presentation is available here.
