Liz Kemp

I started my life at Newcastle as an UG in molecular biology followed by a PhD in medicine looking at cancer genetics.  I completed 3 postdoctoral positions before realising that my chances of gaining an academic role was limited by my inability to leave the North East.  After completing a PGCE I joined professional services as a development manager in Academic Staff Development.  Roll forward 18 years and a lot has changed!  Having developed many different leadership interventions for researchers, as well as award wining programmes for Academic colleagues I took over as CoI on the Wellcome Trust Reimagining Leadership project.  My role is to lead and manage the Organisational Development Strand looking at leadership and psychological safety.  Our aim is to support our leaders with the understanding, skills and a variety of approaches to help create and maintain psychologically safe conditions for their teams to be able to raise concerns, ideas and feel included, leading to high performing happy teams.
