Core Team

Arlene Valente

I graduated from Newcastle University in 2021 with a First Class Honours in Media & Communication and Sociology. Throughout my studies, I gained valuable University work experience with Jobs on Campus in various departments including Student Services, the Asymptomatic Testing Team and the libraries. My first PS role with the University after graduating was as a Receptionist/Facilities Assistant at the Frederick Douglass Centre and the Business School. I then progressed as PA to the Head of School and the School Manager, based in the School of Arts and Cultures - a one year post. I then moved to the HaSS Faculty Office as PA to the Deans of Education/Education Assistant - cover for a one-year colleague secondment.

Currently I am full-time Project Administrator with a range of duties including managing the project inbox and diary; and attending various meetings such as Project Leads and Core Team meetings where I take notes and actions to track and follow-up. I also assist with organising team development days which involves anything from room-booking and catering to updating documents for use on the day. I bring to the project a solid history in a range of administration posts including with local authorities, housing associations and self-employment during a long working career in Scotland before moving to Newcastle with my family in 2014.

My family are all teenagers now, so I enjoy getting out and about with my husband and our cameras, visiting historic houses, castles and lovely towns and villages. I have a keen interest in social history, the lived experience of the past. My special place is Beamish Museum, especially the Pit Village as it is a place transports me back in time, evoking a range of memories from my childhood – as well as helping to switch off from everyday life.
