The Energy Center (TEC) since commencement of activities in 2006 has over the years provided a platform for the pursuit of multidisciplinary research and development activities at KNUST. TEC pulls resources from the College of Engineering (CoE) as well as other Colleges of the university. Thanks to these activities TEC’s vision to become “a globally-recognized centre of excellence for energy in Africa” is fast becoming reality. The core objectives of TEC are: provide training, research and advisory services to public and private actors; support government and non-governmental organisations in the harvesting and dissemination of knowledge and best-practice; enhance capabilities of selected/ interested academic staff and create an effective organizational framework for collaborative, interdisciplinary research and development.
The Energy Centre, KNUST has operated to date as a virtual centre with a lean office staffing structure consisting of the Director and a Senior Administrative Assistant supported by national service personnel. TEC has a Management Board which is chaired by the Provost of the College of Engineering and has representatives from all five other Colleges of the university as well as the four main disciplinary areas in the CoE. So far, TEC activities have been funded from projects undertaken by TEC Fellows and Junior Associates from the College of Engineering and the College of Architecture and Planning.
