Insights Lecture by Professor Stephanie Newell

Professor Stephanie Newell (Yale University) is Leverhulme Visiting Professor this year in the School of English. She is an expert in African literature, print cultures, and world literature, is the author of The Power to Name: A History of Anonymity in Colonial West Africa (Ohio UP, 2013) and West African Literature: Ways of Reading (Oxford UP, 2006), among several other monographs and edited books. She will be collaborating with colleagues in the School of English on a series of projects relating to postcolonial print cultures.

Professor Newell is delivering the first Insights Lecture on October 8, 2019, "The History of Dirt in West Africa", at 5:30 pm in the Curtis Auditorium. The lecture is based on her forthcoming book with Duke University Press, Histories of Dirt in West Africa: Media and Urban Life in Postcolonial Lagos.
