About
The loss of a baby during pregancy, childbirth or the first year of life is a devastating event. In many cases parents seek answers and the best way to achieve this is through autopsy, yet the prospect of autopsy can be overwhelming. This project aims to evaluate a series of non-invasive or minimally invasive tests. We want to know if the tests can provide accurate results and whether they could be used in place of traditional autopsy. To achieve this we are conducting a systematic review to examine the scientific and medical evidence surrounding these tests. We want to make sure we are gathering as much information as possible to use in the review so we are also investigating methodologies that can help us with this challenge. We have divided these tasks into work package 1 - the systematic review, and work package 2 - the methodologies investigation. Both work packages have been desinged to support each other and provide a comprehensive analysis of the evidence.
