Embodied Methods' Workshop
Embodied Methods' Workshop with Professor Bruce Smith, Wednesday 17th May, 3-4.30pm
Visiting Leverhulme Professor Bruce Smith ran a workshop for MEMS/the Performance Research Network on 'Embodied Methods' on Wednesday 17th May, 3-4.30pm, in Armstrong 2.50. Around 25 people attended this excitingly interdisciplinary workshop.
Bruce discussed how he arrived at his pioneering methodology with respect to sound and voice, and shared his most recent research on voice in Galenic physiology, exploring the challenges that his research poses to our own ideas about voice and “biological destiny.” Bruce then invited participants to share their own methodological approaches, problems, and challenges, as we explored how we might use embodied methods in our own research. This session prompted rich and reflective conversations about how we might think across disciplinary approaches and use embodied and creative ways to approach our research questions from a variety of angles. We are very grateful to Professor Smith for his generous and generative approach to the workshop, the final event of his visiting professorship.
