AHRC-Funded PhD: A History of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC)

Ally Keane's research centres user perspectives and makes a significant contribution to UK disability history, drawing on original interviews and survey research with AAC users.

Ally has created groundbreaking new oral history methods to capture the voices of AAC users, who often experience multiple forms of symbolic violence and silencing in an ableist society. Her user-centred approach has pioneered new ways of allowing AAC users to provide accounts of their own experiences.

Ally's PhD is funded by the Northern Bridge Consortium DTP.
