Dr. Paul Richter

Dr Paul Richter is a Lecturer in Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Newcastle University Business School. Paul is the Principal Investigator on the SECT:OR project.

Paul’s research interests centre on innovation and entrepreneurship trends as they relate to a number of practice settings – SMEs/micro-businesses; the cultural and creative sector; public service delivery; and higher education. Paul’s research into SMEs and micro-businesses has included conducting an ESRC-funded longitudinal, multi-method study exploring how firms understand and respond over time to different forms of regulation in contrasting sectoral and geographic contexts. Paul has also worked with fellow team member, Dr Fiona Whitehurst, on Newcastle University’s Captured programme, which has supported more than 120 small businesses over the last 5 years, and has generated novel insights into how the concept of ‘anchor institutions’ can be broadened to include private sector organisations supporting micro-businesses, and the learning processes through which business owners can develop.
