Research Team

The On-Site/Off-Site project is led by an experienced team of academics and art in heritage practitioners based in Fine Art, School of Arts and Cultures, Newcastle University. Three of members of our Team (Vee, Rebecca and Judith) were previous Investigators on the ‘Mapping Contemporary Art in the Heritage Experience’ (MCAHE) project (2017-20).

Vee Pollock
Dean of Culture and the Creative Arts, and Professor of Art & Place

Vee's research focuses on the relationship between art and place-making, focusing particularly on places undergoing significant change. She has published widely in this area and is a regular contributor to international peer-reviewed conferences and journals. Vee is also Newcastle University's Dean of Culture and Creative Arts, managing strategic relationships and looking after the University's cultural portfolio. Rebecca Farley
Senior Research Associate

Rebecca’s research and writing examines the junctures between heritage and contemporary visual arts practice with a particular focus on commissioning and public art production. Prior to joining Newcastle University, Rebecca worked as a public art consultant and Commissions Officer at Arts Council England. Judith King
Senior Research Associate

Judith is a researcher and curator and was co-founder of the agency Arts&Heritage. She has a twenty-year track record of development work in the contemporary arts and heritage sector, including as curator of the English Heritage contemporary art programme at Belsay Hall and Gardens from 1995-2012. She is curently leading a Newcastle University Knowledge Transfer Partnership with the Vindolanda Trust. For further information visit Judith’s staff profile page.

Kiki Claxton
Research Associate

Kiki is an independent Creative Producer. She has previously worked with Arts&Heritage and on National Trust’s Cultural Programme, managing the strategy and delivery of creative programming across multiple properties. Kiki is also currently undertaking an AHRC Northern Bridge Studentship with Newcastle and Durham Universities (Collaborative Doctoral Award with National Trust).
