Symposium October 2024
Our first international symposium on food insecurity took place in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK on Wednesday 23rd - Thursday 24th October 2024
Food insecurity is a pressing global challenge. This symposium created a much-needed space to come together across disciplines — from research and policy to practice and lived experience — to share expertise, strengthen networks, and explore solutions.
Through this event, and the wider work of the Nourishing Futures Network, our aim was to advance evidence-based strategies that both prevent food insecurity and mitigate its impacts on health and wellbeing. We were thrilled by the strong interest in this inaugural symposium, with delegates joining us from academia, policy, public health, clinical practice, charities, and community organisations.
Our heartfelt thanks went to everyone who made this event possible — the leadership team, the local organising committee, speakers, exhibitors, delegates, and the Newcastle University catering team. We were especially grateful for the generous financial support of Rank Prize, the Newcastle University Global Partnership Fund, and Deakin University’s Institute for Health Transformation and School of Social Development.
We look forward to growing the Nourishing Futures Network with future events and warmly invite anyone who would like to get more involved.
