NFN Bitesize #5: Food Insecurity & Hunger During Pregnancy

In this NFN Bitesize episode, A/Prof Fiona McKay shares insights from her considerable body of work exploring how to measure and respond to food insecurity and its impact on pregnancy.

Her research explores the implications of food insecurity, cultural food practices and the structural barriers that shape nutrition, wellbeing and healthcare experiences for pregnant and postpartum women in high-income countries. She also examines women’s experiences of food insecurity, including the everyday strategies they use to manage food insecurity and the protective factors that can help mitigate its effects during pregnancy.

Fiona McKay is an Associate Professor of Health Equity in the School of Health and Social Development and Institute for Health Transformation at Deakin University.
