Newcastle Marine Autonomous Vehicle Lab
Advanced Engineering Design
Specialising in end-to-end design of next-generation marine autonomous systems, combining hydrodynamics, structures, control, and energy-efficient architectures. Covers concept development, detailed modelling, and integrated system engineering for ASVs, AUVs, underwater gliders, and wave-powered platforms.
Fast Prototyping and Testing
The Lab accelerates innovation through rapid prototyping, in‑house fabrication, and iterative testing. Vehicles and subsystems are validated through bench tests, tank trials, and full‑scale demonstrations using Newcastle’s hydrodynamic facilities and sea‑trial assets. This approach shortens development cycles and enables quick transition from concept to operational platform.
Digital and Smart Systems
We develop digital twins, autonomy frameworks, sensing and data‑fusion pipelines, and smart operational tools that enhance vehicle performance and mission reliability. Our work integrates AI‑enabled control, energy‑aware decision‑making, and real‑time situational awareness across surface and underwater platforms.
