Newcastle Locomotive

We at Newcastle Locomotive strive for perfection, this is Newcastle University's first full entry into the IMechE Railway Challenge. 

Our 2018/2019 team consists of six Engineering students working as part of Newcastle Universities MEC8099: Mechanical Engineering Team Project. Throughout this year our team will progress in their development towards professional chartered engineers, with experience of project management and participation in a major team project, covering all aspects of project work from requirements and specification to a range of written, oral and visual presentations of the project outcomes.

The Challenge is an annual student competition in the railway sector, the Railway Challenge. It was Launched with the key objectives of developing professional engineers and inspiring the next generation, the challenge is now in its eighth year. The aim of the competition is to: 

  • Develop and demonstrate technical, engineering design and manufacturing skills
  • Obtain practical and rounded railway engineering skills
  • Gain real-world engineering experience to kick start your career
  • Learn and practice key soft skills such as team-working and time management alongside project management, budgeting and presentation skills. Becoming better equipped for a long-lasting career in engineering
  • Network with leading professionals in railway engineering and potential future employers

Lakeshore Testing Partnership
