NECEM Flex Fund 2nd Call

We received 14 proposals to the NECEM Flex Fund in February 2020. There was a broad range of topics with some excellent industry support and collaborations with several other institutions.  The proposals were assessed based on the call criteria:

  • Collaboration with other institutions
  • Demonstrated excellence and ability to deliver
  • Novelty and quality of the proposed research
  • Complementary fit to the current programme and additionality
  • Industry and additional engagement; letter of support
  • Potential for impact

The top two ranked proposals can be funded with the available budget they are:

  • Bi-functional air electrodes for metal-air batteries led by Prof Ulrich Stimming (Newcastle University) in collaboration with Prof Jawwad Darr (UCL)
  • Creating an Open Access Facility for Lifetime Assessment of Emerging PV led by Dr Chris Groves (Durham University) in collaboration with Dr Douglas Halliday (Durham University), Dr Elizabeth Gibson (Newcastle University), Dr Marina Frietag (Newcastle University), Dr Pablo Docampo (Newcastle University)

Several proposals were thought to be excellent PhD Projects so have been advised to apply to the ReNU CDT.
