GP Record Data Collection

The Newcastle Clinical Trials Unit (NCTU) will be requesting access to NATTINA participants' GP records at the end of their 24 month follow up in order to collect health service utilisation data. We wish to collect the following data over the patient's 24 month involvement and for the 6 months prior to the date of recruitment: number of visits to the GP/walk-in clinic/A&E, number of home visits or telephone calls to the GP and number of prescriptions issued. Health service data is vital for NATTINA research so that we can calculate tonsillitis costs to the primary health care service.

GPs will be notified, via a GP letter, when their patient has been enrolled and the intention to collect data from their GP records. GPs will be contacted again nearer the time to discuss how this will be done. A 'Participant GP Record Report Form' will act as a template to collect data. The method of data collection will vary depending on the GP practice's preference.

Permission to collect patient GP record information will be taken when the patient signs the consent form.
