GPs will be notified of their patient's participation in NATTINA through a GP letter sent by the NHS hospital.
If you have received one of these letters your patient has been allocated to one of these two study groups:
1) 'Immediate Tonsillectomy' patients will undergo surgery within 6-8 weeks of randomisation.
2) 'Conservative management' patients will receive standard of care, as normally treated by the patients themselves or by their GP, which typically comprises self-administered analgesia +/- ad hoc GP issued prescriptions of antibiotics, attendance to walk-in clinics or A&E for more severe episodes. Conservative management patients are asked to defer surgery for up to 2 years, however they will be assessed after 12 months on their willingness to stay in this arm.
If you have any questions or concerns about the study please do not hesitate to contact your Local Study or the Trial Management Team.
