Project summary: My project will focus on synthesising organosodium reagents mechanochemically and developing novel reaction pathways using their distinctive reactivity. The higher natural abundance and lower cost of sodium, alongside the comparable reactivity it shares with lithium, make it a viable alternative to the organolithium reagents frequently used in organic synthesis. However, accessing organosodium via traditional solution-based methods requires specialised forms of sodium. Mechanochemistry overcomes this limitation by enabling the use of metallic sodium while reducing solvent use.
