Project Summary: Cyclic peptides hold great promise as therapeutics due to their high substrate selectivity and ability to bind to large pockets. However, the field of peptide drug discovery is limited by their poor permeability and bioavailability. While small molecule drug design is aided by Lipinski’s “Rule of 5” for oral bioavailability, no such guideline exists for peptide therapeutics. This project aims to determine the physicochemical properties that facilitate cyclic peptide permeability. These will subsequently be applied to generate a library of cell-permeable cyclic peptides to be screened against targets of interest.

Interesting Fact: When I was 8 years old I went on a school trip to a safari park where I was attacked by a llama.
