Tom Smith's work makes the cover of RSC Chemical Biology, January 2024 edition!

We are delighted to see that the work of Tom Smith (Cohort 3) has been chosen for the front cover of RSC Chemical Biology’s January 2024 edition! Tom's new paper concerns mRNA-display methods for identifying and engineering cyclicpeptides for specificity/potency. You can read the new paper here.

Tom had this to say about creating the fantastic artwork for the cover:

“When deciding how best to summarise the work from our paper into some art we were thinking about the themes of in vitro biochemical assays vs relying solely on Bioinformatic data. It just so happens that at the end of 2023, Newcastle University’s chemistry department ran a festive glassblowing workshops. There, we met Robyn Hare who has made some incredible designs including a hand made from glass. We thought this would be perfect for our artwork to represent the 'in vitro' work done by hand against the backdrop of next generation sequencing data, all towards developing cyclic peptides.”
