The ASR artificial hip joint represents probably the greatest failure in the history of modern orthopaedics, with almost 100,000 implanted worldwide before its withdrawal.
Dr Tom Joyce will ask what has driven the need for new designs such as the ASR and discuss how surgeons in the North East of England are leading initiatives to prevent such a disaster happening again.
