'Mapping Contemporary Art in the Heritage Experience' was an interdisciplinary research project led by staff at Newcastle University in collaboration with the University of Leeds. Our research staff were based in the School of Arts and Culture (Fine Art, and Media, Culture, Heritage), Newcastle University and the Centre for Critical Studies in Museums, Galleries and Heritage (CCSMGH), University of Leeds.

Andrew Newman
Professor of Cultural Gerontology

Andrew’s main research interests are arts consumption, arts gerontology, museums/galleries and cultural policy. Much of his work explores audience responses to contemporary visual art, and in how social and cultural policy is constructed and practice regulated.

Vee Pollock
Dean of Culture and the Creative Arts, Newcastle University
Vee’s research focuses on the relationship between art (mainly public art and participative practices), place-making and communities at moments of change, such as industrialisation or post-industrial regeneration. She has a keen interest in how issues of memory and narrative play into these practices and processes.
