Making Provisions is a Newcastle University research project exploring how public, private and third sector actors in the UK anticipate and manage potential crises within a global food system challenged by periodic shocks and scares.
The Making Provisions team will build up a picture of the technologies and practices which are used within the food system to identify, prevent or manage possible future threats and problems through desk-based research, interviews with people involved in producing, processing, retailing, managing and regulating food, and observations gathered during site visits. Through highlighting opportunities for information sharing and the dissemination of best practice in the management of food system risks and anticipatory actions, the Making Provisions project aims to identify steps towards building a more resilient food system.
The Making Provisions Project is funded jointly by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and the Food Standards Agency (FSA) under the Global Food Security Programme.
