Welcome to our new BEST website where you will find all the information and documents you need to continue helping your child with BEST at home.

Findings

Firstly, thank you for allowing your child to be involved in our study. Your participation and dedication to our research has been invaluable in evaluating whether Building Early Sentences Therapy (BEST) is effective for helping children with language difficulties.

So far our data shows that the therapy is helpful for children who are having difficulties with their language. We will post more information about the outcomes of the study when they are available.

FAQ About BEST

What exactly is BEST?

Building Early Sentences Therapy (BEST) is a new language intervention that has been designed to support children with language difficulties.

How long does BEST normally take?

The whole programme is made up of 16 sessions that last around 15 minutes each.

Is my child suitable for BEST?

BEST has been designed to help children around 3-6 years old who have difficulties with language. Your child’s class teacher will help decide if your child would benefit from BEST

Is BEST suitable for children who don’t have English as their home language?

The B-BEST is available for children with Pakistani heritage or Bangladeshi heritage home languages. It is being trialed now and will be available in the future.

How will I be involved?

The BEST programme is delivered at school and at home in partnership with you, the child’s parent(s)/carer. The homework will involve you talking about what is happening in the homework picture books. Your child can join in with talking or can listen to learn- it’s up to them!

There are sixteen homework booklets in total, and you will be given one after each session. To save paper they are also available on this site.
