Objectives

  • To continue conducting earthquake reconnaissance missions and carry out detailed technical evaluations of the performance of structures, infrastructure, foundations, industrial plant and natural geographical features affected by earthquakes.
  • To continue to extend the remit of the earthquake reconnaissance missions to study earthquake response and recovery by deploying "return missions".
  • To develop a consistent and workable data collection protocol for storing and sharing the diverse types of information collected in the missions, and for integrating these with data from other sources.
  • To build a flexible and sustainable Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) that implements the developed data collection protocols manages the resulting data and makes them available from all past reconnaissance missions, as well as from new missions. The inclusion of new and past data will adhere to the 7 principles of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Uncompliant datasets will not be included.
  • To propose a set of field tools for recording earthquake impact data, response and recovery information and to ensure that EEFIT members and other Learning from Earthquake programmes are trained in their use, for their effective adoption.

Apart from these main objectives, we will continue to educate new researchers and professional engineers in the techniques of earthquake investigation.
