To disseminate the findings from the ESRC's Learning Society Programme, four Conferences were held: a two-day event in London and three one-day Conferences in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales.  All these events were highly successful and included a wide spectrum of participants including: policy-makers, politicians, local authority officials, specialists in Lifelong Learning, officials from TECs and Regional Development Agencies, policy advisers, education providers from all sectors, community education workers, careers advisors, educational psychologists, researchers, academics, higher degree students, employers, training managers, trade unionists, representatives of employers organisations, industrial consultants, media representatives, youth workers, voluntary organisations and religious groups.

Glasgow – held 18th May 1999 at the University of Glasgow - 133 participants

 London - 6th to 7th July 1999 at Church House, Westminster -  220 participants 

Belfast - 12th October 1999, financial support from the Department of Education in Northern Ireland – 106 participants 

Cardiff – 19th October 1999 at Cardiff University, with financial support from South West Wales TEC - 89 participants
