Dr Selma Guerreiro visited ETH Zurich recently where she presented her work on “Detection of continental-scale intensification of hourly rainfall extremes” to the Institute for Atmospheric and Climate Science. The 3 day visit included discussions on linking ETH convection permitting climate models with the work being conducted in the INTENSE project, and how we can provide indices based on observed hourly rainfall to validate their model simulations. The visit also resulted in a joint COST Action proposal (with several other European parties) focused on compound weather events.
