Innovative sustainable finance mechanisms for net-zero, regenerative and equitable futures

INSURE is an interdisciplinary action research and policy-oriented project designed to support Newcastle City Council (NCC) in meeting its 2030 Net-Zero and climate adaptation goals. It integrates research from diverse fields, including data science and advanced modelling, climate risk assessment and decision theory, green finance and economic analysis, and urban policy, to identify and promote innovative, actionable strategies, practices, and sustainable solutions for funding climate action locally. The project emphasises innovative and blended finance mechanisms and instruments amid constrained public funds and intensifying climate risks. Bridging this finance gap requires a major increase in both public and private impact finance, including concessional finance for the local council.
