PhD opportunites

The EU-funded In2PrimateBrains project is recruiting 15 PhD candidates. The brain is the most complex organ of the human body. It receives information from our environment and incorporates this into the planning and execution of appropriate actions. This involves cooperation between many different brain areas. However, how these brain areas communicate is poorly understood. The In2PrimateBrains project aims to address this knowledge gap. In particular it will investigate how sensory inputs are combined with executive functions and motor control to create appropriate actions. Trainees will study the brain of non-human primates - the closest model to the human brain - generating important insight into local and long-range dynamics of communication down to the single neuron. 

Alongside scientific achievements the project will train the next generation of neurobiologists. Successful applicants will receive tailored research training by world-leading European researchers from the academic, clinical and industrial sectors. This will be accompanied by a comprehensive programme of network-wide training events including thematic workshops in essential research-related and transferable skills. 

Eligibility

In order to meet funding eligibility candidates must must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the recruiting beneficiary for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the recruitment date. Compulsory national service, short stays such as holidays, and time spent as part of a procedure for obtaining refugee status under the Geneva Convention are not taken into account.

Potential applicants must, at the date of recruitment, be in the first four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of their research careers and have not been awarded a doctoral degree. 

The 15 positions cover the entire spectrum of the In2PrimateBrains project. A description of each project is available on our PhD projects page. 

Application process:

Candidates applied through an online form. To complete the process the candidate needed a CV in PDF format. Details of 2 people who will provide references. The candidate was asked to choose three projects, in order of preference and provide an explanation of your choices (300 words max).

The call for applications is now closed.

Once the call is closed, the candidate was pre-selected according to several eligibility criteria.

Pre-selected candidates were interviewed, informed about their file status, and received an Evaluation Summary Report if they failed in a selection stage by the end of the recruitment process.

The selected candidates, were required to accept or decline the position within 2 weeks.

The selected ESR is enrolled in the In2PrimateBrains programme after signing the contract, as well as in the local doctoral school.
