Part time PhD student based at the Population Health Sciences Institute (PHSI). 

PhD studentship ‘Exploring the lived experiences of children, young people and their families accessing hospital treatment in the context of a potentially life-changing condition: A qualitative case study of a clinical apheresis community.   This study is being undertaken in two Childrens and Young Peoples Haematology, Oncology and Stem Cell Transplant primary Treatment centres in the North and North-West, of England. Children young people and their families, (Parents, carers, siblings and family members) who have had stem cell collection or manipulation procedures (Apheresis procedures), have been invited to be included within this case study.

Julie co-ordinates the monthly session for Qualitative Data group the sessions provide an arena for novice and experienced researchers to listen and learn in a supportive environment.  The group enables theoretical discussion, insights and alternative interpretations for the data being presented, it’s a support from outside of supervisory and research team groups and can generate new themes for further analysis for researchers.  Please contact Julie directly if you would like to be included in the circulation list for these monthly events. 

Background

Julie is a Clinical Nurse Specialist with a number of decades experience in the Child and Adolescent Haematology Oncology Speciality.  She chairs the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant Nurses group and is an active member in a number of clinical themes around the speciality both nationally and internationally.

Supervision and Teaching;

Julie is developing her supervisory experience supporting a student on a NIHR ICA Pre-doctoral Clinical and Practitioner Academic Fellowship.  

Future collaboration

Julie is entering her write up year for her thesis and is currently unable to collaborate on work until her Thesis is submitted at the end of 2023.
