An integrated tool to investigate mixing
and transport processes in shallow flows
PhD research project: Jingchun Wang
This project aims to develop and integrated tool to investigate wind and inflow induced mixing and transport in shallow lakes.
Particles in pure advection may follow very complicated paths due to non-linear Lagrangian dynamics. This has a great influence on the transport of water-borne particles which have far-reaching ecological and environmental consequences. This project will explore possible methods of improving water quality by using the theory of chaotic advection in shallow water flows.
The tool is being used to investigate how the water quality of Taihu Lake, China can be improved by introducing fresh water from the Yangtze River to flush the pollutants from the lake.
