UKUH Researchers' Article on Fracking in The Conversation

In response to rising gas prices and the debate on shale gas exploration in the UK, several members of the UKUH team have written an article, "Why fracking is not the answer to soaring UK gas prices," in The Conversation, an independent source of news analysis and informed comment written by academic experts.

Michael Bradshaw, Mark Ireland, Rachel Brown, and Richard Davies have collaborated on the article, outlining the various issues with shale gas exploration being an answer to rising gas prices in the UK. Within this article, they look at the timeline for production, lack of proven reserves, negative public responses, and the geological complexity of the area as all major issues impeding the success of shale exploration in the UK.

In conclusion, the article argues that "the answer is not more gas supply, it’s less gas demand. While taking the UK’s foot off the gas will take time and cost money, in the long term it will free the country from fossil fuel price volatility and reliance on importing a large share of its energy." To find out more, read The Conversation article here.
