Fieldwork grant of £2500
PhD researcher Gianluca Amicarelli in the School of Engineering at Newcastle University, with a project that spans both Civil and Geotechnical Engineering and Earth Sciences has been awarded a fieldwork grant of £2500 by the Geological Society of London (GSL). The GSL awards a range of grants for research activities including fieldwork. This grant will support Gianluca’s research characterizing micro to macro scale fractures in granitic bodies and the implications for geological disposal of radioactive waste. It will enable him to visit an exceptionally exposed fracture system at Hitra Island (Norway) to complement an existing site in SW Scotland.
