Stuart Middleton works in a multi-disciplinary and site-specific way. Through writing fiction, animation, drawing and sculpture he examines environments in which fantasies and public expectations intersect. Shifting from the home, prison or agricultural industry, his projects reflect on technological and cultural structures that control and comfort, returning to spaces where capital, gender, class and cruelty intersect. Recent solo exhibitions include Motivation and Personality, Künstlerhaus (Graz, Austria); Improvers, Carlos/Ishikawa (London, UK) and Beat, ICA (London, UK)/Tramway (Glasgow, UK). His work has also been included in group exhibitions at Towner Art Gallery (Eastbourne, UK); Camden Arts Centre (London, UK); Kunsthaus Glarus (Glarus, CH) and Schiefe Zähne (Berlin, DE).
