Michael Fullerton’s work is concerned with how political and historical information is recorded and disseminated, in particular through the medium of the oil painted portrait. Fullerton’s choice of subjects range from the overtly political to people of varied social class and unexpected cultural histories.
Underpinning Fullerton’s work is an examination of the relationships between people and the forces at play in those relationships, whether that be social relations involving authority or power, or relationship dynamics that work on a more emotional, psychological or aesthetic level. Other mediums of communication, such as billboard posters, wall texts and the raw materials used for analogue tape and audio recording are also employed
