Allison Katz makes paintings, both figurative and abstract. She is also known to make sculptures, ceramics and the occasional performance, as well as posters for her own exhibitions, all of which are intimately linked to her ongoing inquiry into the conventions and history of Western painting.
Born in 1980, in Montreal, Canada, she has been based in London since 2012 and graduated with an MFA in 2008 from Columbia University, New York. “Adele,” a solo exhibition, is currently on view at Piper Keys, London.
Recent exhibitions include Perra Perdida at Lulu in Mexico City (with Camilla Wills); and Regardless at Laura Bartlett, London. Selected group shows in 2013 include “Tussie–Mussie,” 1857, Oslo; “I Am The Magic Hand,” Sikkema Jenkins, New York; and “Notes on Neo–Camp,” which debuted at Office Baroque, Antwerp and traveled to Studio Voltaire, London. Related projects include an edition for The Song Cave Press; a billboard project in Rome, commissioned by Fondazione Pastificio Cerere; and curating the group show “Portmanteau” at Johan Berggren. Her work has been featured or reviewed in Flash Art, Metropolis M, Kaleidoscope, and The New Yorker, amongst other publications.
