Timothy Hyman trained as a painter at the Slade in the mid 1960's, and drew close to Kitaj from1977 onwards. As well as 9 London solo shows, he has exhibited widely and his work is in many public collections . He was elected RA in 2011. He has just completed a stint as Artist- in- Residence for Maggie's Centres .
As a writer he has published monographs on BONNARD and SIENESE PAINTING (both still available, Thames and Hudson) as well as on the Indian painter BHUPEN KHAKHAR. He curated the controversial exhibition NARRATIVE PAINTINGS in1979, and in 2001 was lead curator for the Tate's STANLEY SPENCER Retrospective. He is currently under contract with Thames and Hudson to write "FIGURATIVE PAINTING IN THE 20TH CENTURY: Episodes Towards an Alternative History."
