Gallerist Hannah Robinson established, Mary Mary, Glasgow in April 2006. The gallery opened with a solo show by Karla Black and has since organised a programme of exhibitions and events including a group show curated by Hayley Tompkins and solos by Maximilian Zentz Zlomovitz, Torsten Lauschmann, Ernst Caramelle, Michael Hakimi, Aleana Egan, Lorna Macintyre amongst others. Originally begun as an artist project space in 2004 and run from a number of flats in Glasgow, the gallery now represents thirteen international artists and participates in all the major international art fairs.
In 2008 the gallery also began to publish artists' books and poster works by Ernst Caramelle and Lotte Gertz, catalogues including ‘Fourteen Drawings’ by Lorna Macintyre and ‘Mistakes Made Away From Home’ by Karla Black. An artist book by Sara Barker will be published and launched in late 2010/early 2011. 2011 will also see the beginning of numerous off-site projects including film screenings, outdoor projects, performance and a temporary project space in London beginning April 2011.
The galleries artists have exhibited widely - for example, Karla Black at Art Now, Tate Britain, Migros Museum, Modern Art Oxford, Inverleith House and Kunstverein Hamburg, Venice Biennale in 2011. Lili Reynaud-Dewar at Kunsthalle Basel and Frac Champagne Ardennes, Reims and Aleana Egan in 5th Berlin Biennale with Egan also having a solo show at Kunsthalle Basel in 2008 and at Drawing Room, London (2011). Nick Evans’ solo show at Inverleith House, Edinburgh and Torsten Lauschmann with solo shows at Gallery of Modern Art, Glasgow; Arnolfini, Bristol, ICA, London and commissions for the National Galleries of Scotland. Lorna Macintyre at ICA, London and Kunsthaus Baselland and a forthcoming solo at Wiels, Brussels, amongst many others.
