“My work consists primarily of sculptures and paintings. They inform each other and their boundaries often blur. I am interested in a refined finish and aspire to a distilled and reduced beauty. Objects seem weighty by either being isolated or by being simply, poetically juxtaposed. In my search for a reduced simplicity, I find inspiration in the idea of the archaic and the classic. Often there is a sexual and sensual undercurrent in my work, which is closely linked to the idea of fetish- another way of heightening the status of an object.

My approach is usually quite playful. The juxtaposition of elements seems precise yet often unlikely or absurd in character. The figurative element in my work has become less elaborate.

Recently work aspired much more to an abstract character by employing simple shapes, folds, slits or holes. There is usually an allusion to a sensual or physical approach in encountering paintings and objects: Trompe l’oeil of cut canvas seemingly leads the eye in and out of a painting or material surface seems very tactile or sometimes even edible. I draw inspiration from various sources from quite domestic or mundane activities like cooking to art history or music making.

I was born in Munich. I live and work in London.”
